March 30, 2012 – IRS Refund Status Information

The IRS released a relatively small number of refunds today. Next Monday, we again expect the IRS to release a relatively small number of refunds.
As of today, looking at statistics of tax returns recently filed, here are estimates of the percentage of refunds not yet released by the IRS:
– for returns filed on 2/13 and prior, most refunds have been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 2/14 – 2/27, approximately 10% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 2/28 – 3/13, approximately 15% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 3/14 – 3/18, approximately 20% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 3/19, approximately 30% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 3/20, approximately 35% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 3/21 – 3/23, approximately 60% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 3/24 and beyond, the IRS has released very few refunds.

The IRS released a larger than usual number of refunds today. For the rest of the week, we expect the IRS to release smaller numbers of refunds.
