The IRS released a relatively small amount of refunds today.
As of today, looking at statistics of tax returns recently filed, here are estimates of the percentage of refunds not yet released by the IRS:
– for returns filed on 2/12 and prior, most refunds have been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 2/13 – 2/20, approximately 10% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 2/21, approximately 15% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 2/22, approximately 20% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 2/23 – 2/25, approximately 25% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 2/26, approximately 35% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 2/27, approximately 25% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 2/28, approximately 30% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 2/29, approximately 70% have not yet been released by the IRS.
– for returns filed on 3/1 and beyond, the IRS has released very few refunds.

Since the middle of last week, the IRS has released very few of the older refunds. We are expecting the IRS to release a large batch of older refunds by the middle of this week. Keep in mind that the IRS releases refunds to all the banks at the same time.
