Start of IRS Tax Return Filing

Because the IRS set the official start date of e-file for January 30th, the IRS has said it will NOT begin processing of ANY tax refunds until January 30th, even for returns that may have been sent to the IRS before that time. The IRS has also said it will NOT turn on its “Where`s My Refund” service at the IRS until January 30th. Because of this, taxpayers are unable to look up their return status at the IRS until January 30th. This has created some confusion for taxpayers who are trying to verify that their return has been accepted by the IRS.
Once the IRS begins processing returns on January 30 and fully enables its processing systems, the IRS will begin processing refunds. As a result, the IRS is NOT expected to release any refunds until around February 6th. This means that the first possible day that taxpayers could receive their refund is around February 6th.
